Genealogy Research and Family History Verification
I have over 25 years of experience researching the records, libraries, and graveyards of South Central Kentucky and North Central Tennessee.
With degrees in English, History, and Communications, I am a diligent reader/researcher with the ability to create thoroughly documented family histories. The loves of history, research, and genealogy came together when I got my Certification in Genealogy last year. I am also pursuing further credentials from the Board for Certification of Genealogists, an independent, not-for-profit certifying body that promotes ethics and standards in the field. Additionally, I am a member of the Kentucky Genealogical Society.
I must have been in first grade when I asked my parents about our family history to create a basic tree for a school project. It was then I learned that my great grandfather on my Dad's side had served in the Civil War! That created a lifelong interest in my own history and in doing historical research. I have discovered so much about my father's family, the Flora, Hill, Pardue, Cross, and associated families, who were pioneer stock in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina (as well as Tennesse and Kentucky, of course). I delve into my mother's roots mostly online since she came directly to Kentucky from England. I find my journey of discovery both fascinating and rewarding.
Last year when I received my certification, I decided to branch out and help more people understand where they came from, to help them explore their deep roots. I want to add to their research and expand their scope to present a much fuller portrait of their family.
"We didn't know much about my Dad's people. Joan found out we are related to one of the Founding Fathers! My whole family is excited about this!" CG
"Joan is careful and detailed in her research. Although I had a lot of names, dates, and vital statistics for my family members, Joan fleshed out the details, giving me context." BCS
"Such detailed work takes time, but it was worth it." MM
